Hi Les,
I fancied a quick visit to the Poole Local History Centre, so I looked up the following for you ...
MARRIAGE
On 3 September 1850 at St James's (Poole) after banns
Joseph CASSON
age 27, bachelor, mariner, Poole
father: Joseph Casson, yeoman
Mary PEARCE
age 25, spinster, no occupation given, Poole
father: William Pearce, mariner
Ceremony performed by John Barrow, Curate, in the presence of:
* Ludolph Ropke
* Ann Weever
* James Lewellyn
* Sarah Lewellyn
All signed the register.
When looking for baptism records (see below) I noticed that Ludolph was also a mariner and that his wife's name was Louisa. This is as per the baptism record of their daughter, Emily, chr. 16 Nov 1853 at St James's.
BAPTISMS
I couldn't find a record of the baptisms of Joseph and Mary's children (Joseph Dickinson and Mary). Nor could I find Joseph's own baptism or a record of his parents' marriage. However, my search was confined to the St James's registers, so these events may have occurred elsewhere.
As regards Mary:
Mary, daughter of William and Elizabeth Pearce (father "mariner")
baptised 12 February 1826 at St James's, Poole
Also note these:
* David William, son of William and Elizabeth Pearce (father "mariner")
baptised 1 August 1824 at St James's, Poole.
* Charles Francis, son of Thomas and Ann Pearce (father "carrier")
baptised 1 August 1824 at St James's, Poole.
These were the only baptisms on that date so, at a guess, I'd say that William and Thomas were brothers.
MARRIAGE
Going back further ....
William Pearce and Elizabeth Regler (both of this parish)
m. 7 September 1823 after banns at St James's, Poole
in the presence of Wm.Lilly (and two others whose signatures I can't read - one looks a bit like Charlotte le Heyman, but I wouldn't swear to it.)
Bride and groom both signed with 'X'.
Hope this all helps
Cheers
Dave
