Harness Maker in Sutton Coldfield
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 20:57 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to my GGGrandfather's brother George Martin, his wife Marian and their children George R and Kathleen.  George was a Saddler and Harness Manufacturer .  He was born in London in 1850 and on the 1901 census he and his family were living at Hartoppe Grange Sutton Coldfield.  I would be interested to know where the saddlery was situated and if I have any relations in Warwickshire.
Many Thanks
Val Firth   :)

I imagine Hartopp Grange would have connections with Four Oaks Hall and park which was owned by Sir Edmund Hartopp in 1792 - demolished 1908.  There is still a Hartopp Road in Sutton Coldfield today - part of an exclusive private estate in the Four Oaks Park area of the town.  Sutton Coldfield Library has an extensive local history collection and it would be worth contacting them - you can find contact details on the Birmingham City Council website.

Walker and Warner - Warwickshire
Moore - Worcestershire
Carveley - Cambridgeshire
