Newcastle Arms Coxhoe West Cornforth
« on: Monday 27 February 06 15:36 GMT (UK) »
Myles Roach married Ellen Burke the daughter of Patrick Burke ( also a Publican)on Monday August the 8th 1898 at St Josephs Church Cornforth
Thomas Roche Myles cousin was witness and Margaret Lamb.  Myles  was the landlord of Newcastle Arms  in Coxhoe West Cornforth.
Ellen fell down the stairs in 1918 and Myles was charged with Manslaughter. When he left Durham prison he went back to Ireland. I waswondering if anyone had a picture of the Newcastle Arms.
Thanks Carol

Have you looked at the West Cornforth Village website?
It has quite a large photo gallery, you might be lucky enough to find one there-

This may be of help - the Newcastle Arms was located in East Hetton a small hamlet just outside Coxhoe (nowhere near Cornforth). East Hetton doesn't seem to exist now although the village of Kelloe is close to where it was.

Here is a link that explains more:

http://www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk/the_north_east/history/echomemories/durham/405/121005.html

I have some details of Patrick Burke in an 1890 trade directory on my site:

www.picturespennymoor.co.uk - search for "Burke" in the database. I don't have many records for Cornforth as it on the outskirts of Spennymoor.
