BLOW(E) Family
« on: Tuesday 28 February 06 01:36 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for any trace at all of the BLOW(E) family on the Isle of Man between approx. 1834-1839 – they appear to have been based in the St. Matthew's area.

The parents of the family are:
---------------------------------
Charles Burdett Blowe (or Burdett Charles Blowe)
b. Alston Moor, Cumberland 1809
d. Liverpool, Lancs. 1854

Charles was a PRINTER. (Variously described as Printer, Printer Journeyman and a Printer Compositor)

Jane Fisher
b. c. 1810 probably Whitehaven, Cumberland
---------------------------------

While they were on the IOM, they had the following children (according to the IGI):

---------------------------------
James Ellershaw Blowe
Christened: 30th November, 1834
St. Matthew’s, Douglas, Isle of Man

Ellen Maria Blowe
born: 03.04.1837 (location?)
Christened: 6th October, 1839 St. Matthew’s, Douglas, Isle of Man

Jane Blowe
born 05.08.1838 (location?)
Christened: 6th October, 1839 St. Matthew’s, Douglas, Isle of Man.
---------------------------------

The family seems to have subsequently left the IOM and lived in Liverpool indefinitely.

Any information or advice on where I could possibly find out some details of exactly why the family moved to the IOM, or indeed, what they were doing while they were there would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Samuel Adamson

I can't find any mention of the family apart from the births/baptisms you mentioned on the IGI and Family Search Beta records sites. I can't see any mention on any of the directories available on the Manx Note Book website. Most people moved because of work they probably moved to the island because of work and went to Liverpool because of work. You're unlikely to find any evidence explaining their movements. I have some Manx people who moved to Liverpool in the late 1830s, stayed for about ten years before returning to the Isle Of Man. I'll never know for sure why I can only guess it was to do with work.

have a look at http://www.manxnotebook.com/famhist/genealgy/press.htm - the freepostage + no tax led to a brief explosion in Manx papers hence import of printers/compositors who mostly returned whence they came once the bonanza was over
any thing with a Manx Connection
