I have all those Peterkin's, but Jane Murray's parents were Walter and Elspet, not Elizabeth.

Go to the following link:

Elspet/Elizabeth = the same name.

Good luck with your searching.....  Regards,   Steve :O)

I realise that Elspet is simply a phonetical variant of Elizabeth, but I live in Moray (formerly Banffshire) and having researched here, I can't say I've found any instances of the names ever being interchangeable, and like you link says, families often had daughters called Elizabeth AND Elspet.

Hello Mellie,

A quick question.   I see on the IGI a Jean Murray being ch. on 16 apr 1799 - in Fordyce Banff.  Child of Walter Murray and Elspet Wood.  Is this your Jane?
You advise that Jane Murray died in 1891.  Do you have a copy of her death entry?   This will give you her husbands name, inc. names of her parents, including mothers maiden name.  This should allow you to confirm with GDub71 if your familes are linked.  If you don't have a copy of the death entry and she died in Scotland, please advise as I'll be in Aberdeen Registrars office within the week and shall get a copy at no cost.

Regards,   Steve   :O)

Apologies Mellie,

Should have included the link to http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

It's the Moray govt family history website - a site awash with the name Peterkin.

Hi Mellie, Jean was born 5th January 1827 to James Nicol and Elizabeth Kelman. They had other children but the only one I can find the birth of is Douglas Watson Nicol.

My Direct line is through her sister Christian born around 1841. the others I found in the 1841 census are Catherine, Elspet and Elisa (sister) and Elisa (mother). No sign of James

This was at over Aird Fordyce
