Campbell family from Coatbridge
« on: Sunday 05 March 06 12:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I am coming to the end of my tether now >:(

I can't find the death of my great grandfather anywhere.
I've searched through all the deaths using wildcards and all the other options that are suggested to no avail.
I've even searched the English records.

Lachlan Hanlan Campbell, born 1855, where are you? Did you ever exist at all!!!!!!!

Where would I look to see if he emigrated, my next option?

Any advice gratefully received.

Erika

PS I have all census , births, marriage etc info.

Hi Erika,

When did you 'lose' him?  i.e. what is the date of the last record for him (census records, certs, etc)?

Cheers,

There's no trace of him on Ellis island records

You could have a look at http://www.scotlandsfamily.com/index.html  which may give some further clues as to the nexr direction to take.

Hi Clare

The last census I had was 1901.

I have heard in the last day or so that Canada was once mentioned as a possibility.

My great uncle (one of the missing!) was at his brother's wedding in 1906 so am not sure whether they could have gone after that date or maybe some of the family had already emigrated.

It's all just started a new dimension to my search.

Erika, Are you a member of GenesReunited?  There is someone on Records board offering to do look ups for 1911 Canadian Census.

Hi

If Canada is a possibility, you should try the National Archives of Canada and look through the genealogy section.
They have the Attestation Papers online for the 1st World war. (Free viewing online)

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/

Quick link to "Genealogy Centre"
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/index-e.html

You can also try the Cemetery Finding Aid at
http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/homepage.html
It is not complete, but there are two Lachlan Campbell's listed. (Free site)

The 1901 and 1911 Census for Canada is available at Automated Genealogy site. The 1911 is not complete as of yet. (Free site)

Immigrant Ships sites,

You can also try the "Emigrants to Canada" section of RootsChat. There are alot of great links.

Hi Janice

You are a real star, thank you so much for all the websites.

I haven't had to look overseas before, so can't wait to get started.

I've a few credits left for Scotlands people, so if you need a look up let me know.

Best wishes
