As far as I'm aware there isn't a Blackrock in Limerick unless it's a tiny village. There are Blackrocks in Cork and Dublin, try those boards.

In 1846 there were two James Swinburne (could be the same man recorded twice) recorded in the Slater's Munster Directory.

James Swinburne, Brunswick Street, Trade: Hotels (Limerick Hotel)
James Swinburne, Brunswick Street, Trade: Livery Stables

I'm sure a hotelier at the time would have been regarded as a gentleman.

Hi Sharon
did james swinburne have a middle name orrell , also if possible could you look in the census about 1851 to see if there were other members of his family
thanks again for your help

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately the oldest Irish census we have is the 1901 as all the rest were destroyed (save a few scraps from the 1851, but these weren't from Limerick)
