Staffordshire to Birmingham via Bermuda?!?!?!?!?
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 13:19 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone think why a button maker from Sardon in Staffordshire (Charles Read b 1836 ish) would marry an irish woman (Susan ? b 1836/7) and they have their only son Frederick in Bermuda (b1860 ish).

They are on more than one census with this birthplace for their son.

If I got a chance to go to Bermuda - I dont think I would have come back to inner city Brum - not for all the tea in china!!!

Hi Annaandchester,  :)

I don't know if this is any help, but south, I think, of Nuneaton on the A444 there is a newish industrial park called Bermuda Park, I've passed it whilst going to visit my mum, must be called that for a reason. I have tried looking for any info, but not found any yet!!!

Keep searching.

Regards Pipkim    ;)

Hi

If you take a look at the following link, it is a map of Warwickshire and under is a list of towns and villages - Bermuda is amongst them
http://www.oldmap.co.uk/Warwickshire.html

Try doing a google search of Bermuda + Warwickshire.

Bermuda is a small ex coalmining village which got it's name from one of the Newdigate family who lived at nearby Arbury Hall and who at one time was Governor of Bermuda in the West Indies. The Newdigate's owned much of the land in that area and opened many of the pits and built Bermuda for the workers
