I think the translation of the inscription reads:
in loving memory
of John Hughes
who died June 10 1935
69 years old
also Maria
his loving wife
who died April 26 1962
"Adunwyd" [poss name of house]
also Elizabeth his daughter
who died Dec 25 1971
76 years old
"Quote from the bible"
[I won't translate that, as I don't know the original, so there's a chance I'll get it wrong]
Stuck with:
William Williams of Llanllyfni
John Jones in Llanelli
Evan Evans in Caio
David Davies of Llansanffraid
Evans: Caio/Carms
Jones: CDG, DEN

Hi again. I think it's definitely 1939. If you enlarge the photo, you will see that the last number is far more like the '9' in the various 19xxs than 5.

The 1901 census shows John as being born circa 1869 and his GRO death record is probably Ruthin, June 1939, vol 11b, 365

Thanks D ap D for the translation.

Gadget. 1939 is more likely than 1935 as my mum said Taid used to carry me round the room showing me the pictures on the wall [ all together ---aaaahhhh ] i was born after 1935 so the later date seems the most likely.

Is this the first step to getting a death cert.??

Hi Poli

He was aged 69 as well. I checked 1835 but nothing fitted.
That is the first step to getting a death certificate. Maria's death reference is
June Quarter, 1962. Ruthin, Vol 8a, Page, 395, aged 93.

I've found them on the 1901, living Leeswood. John was born in Liverpool (Bootle). He was a labourer. Before that he was at Derwen as a horseman. I've traced him back to the 1871, when the family had moved back to Denbs - Derwen. His parents were Hugh Hughes, b.c. 1823, Llangwm and Elizabeth, b.c. 1834, Llanfyhangel. They had David(1862); Mary (1864), Catherine and Margaret(1866),  John (1969), Hugh (1873) and Elizabeth (1876). Hugh was an Ag Lab
So I think you're very much Denbighshire :)
I leave at 4 pm this afternoon, so there will be silence from me for a few days  ;D
Did you get your 'tintype' rescanned?

Hi Gadget the info is just rolling in from you, it's like having my own personal secretary!!!

My daughter who will scan my 'tintype' travels a lot in her job so i have to catch her between journeys. Hopefully i'll give it to her in the next couple of days. I also have some tips from Prue about altering the resolution etc to make it clearer. Not sure if her scanner is up to it though. We'll see. Poli.

Hi Poli

I had help when I started and I feel that I can now help others ;)

I would imagine that her scanner could get the resolution that you need - 600 dpi is not  THAT high. The problem is the banding :( I had a go but just couldn't get them all out - and I've done masses of these old photos for my local heritage group, so have had to deal with all sorts of problems - like giving people new faces :)
I digress from the topic.........
