Hi Chris

Im glad the day went well in Cuckfield. I was planning on coming, seeing as I have ties to Cuckfield (Charles Newnham owned a bootmakers shop in the Highstreet 1889 - 1839 and he was my gg grand father). However due to university exams etc I was unable to attend.

It sounds like it was a great succes - let me know if they hold another day like it!!

Hi Kim
Sorry you did not make the F H day in Cuckfield.     Have you been in touch with the museum about the Newnhams?   I know someone was recently.
We have a talk on Parish Records and general local history with various local experts there on Friday Sep 17th at 7.30pm and Chris is doing an afternoon on a Saturday in the spring some time.  Date not yet fixed.

Hi Andrea,

I did go to the museum and put my details in the guest book. That was early this year I think, so it could have been me!
I know that the museum has a poem written by my gg grandfather Charles which they were going to ty and illustrate. They were going to contact me for some photos of Charles but have not done so yet!! I understand that the lady who worked there has recently left so perhaps I should get back in touch to see if they still want some of my photos.

I will put the 17th Sept in my diary and will try to attend this time!

Many thanks

Kim

If you contact the museum anything to do with family history will probably come to me now.      We would love to have any photos.  We are just about to re-open after a major refurbishment so life has been a bit fraught having to pack everything up etc.  We are now having to get it all out again and sort out new displays.
I will remind them about the poem.  I know it was discussed at an earlier committee meeting.

In that case what I will do is get some copies done of the best photos and send them to the museum. The poem was fantastic - we never knew it existed till we went to the museum!

I will have to come to the museum when it has re-opened! All sounds very hectic!

Hi

Yes, I have been invited back to Cuckfield museum to give another talk in the Spring of 2007.

The subject matter for that afternoon is likely to be:-

"Getting more from the Census" - The hidden Information

I will attempt to show you how to extract hidden information from the census by sitting down with copies of the enumerators returns of a street where one of your ancestors lived, and by doing a little bit of work it will enable you to paint a picture of that street.

After that we will compare our findings with other primary sources.

Could be interesting
