Penninah,
Do you have a marriage for James & Sarah?  Here are the only two relevant ones from the Sussex Marriage Index (SMI)  Keymer is adjacent to Cuckfield but seems a little too early for a child in 1827...but you never know.  Arundel is quite a way away but the date is better.

Keymer, West Sussex,  27 Dec 1809:
 James VINCENT
 Sarah AGATE, botp  (B)

Arundel, West Sussex,   26 Mar 1819:
 James VINCENT, bach
 Sarah WAKEHAM, sp botp

Online Parish Clerks (OPC) has someone covering Cuckfield so they might be able to help & there are also some good links for Cuckfield :)  http://www.sussex-opc.org/

Hi again Penninah

You've probably read my personal message by now but I can confirm that James and Sarah are the pair that married in 1809 in Keymer.  Their children (that I have found so far) are as follows:

William born 1810 in Keymer and baptised in Cowfold 1810.  (My ggg grandfather)
James born 1812 and baptised 1812 in Cuckfield
Sarah born 1815, baptised 1821 at the Providence Independence in Cuckfield
Stephen born 1817 and bapt 1821 along with Sarah
Thomas born 1819 and again bapt 1821 (obviously a mass baptism, perhaps they had just joined the chapel then)
John born 1821 and baptised 1822 at the Providence Independence
Martha born 1825 and baptised 1825 at Providence Independence
Joseph born 1827 and baptised 1828 at above Chapel
Jesse born 1830 and baptised 1831 at the above Chapel

I also have records of some of their marriages but I haven't started on off spring yet!

I was afraid someone might ask where it was!   Actually it should read Forge Cottage (sorry Chris) and as far as I can tell from looking at the enumerator's route it is actually on the road out of Handcross towards Cuckfield.    Coming south towards Cuckfield - the page before has Upper Staplefield Common on it then Rose Cottage, Bridge Cottage  then Forge Cottage.  The next one is Slough Green Toll House and that is the end of that particular section.    There is an area there called Hammer Hill and a pond so it could well be an old iron workings - hence the Forge.

Andea

Dont apologise because I boobed.

I was rushing to post the answer as dinner was ready and I was required to carve the joint and mash the potatoes

Well, thats my excuse anyway.
