Kaz - I see Mcallisters listed on your research names. My father(Stephen Mc Alister) was from Hillsborough,Co Down - and when my husband and I were emigrating to Australia,in 1955, headed for Nambour in Queensland,he asked me to look up an elderly couple, a brother and sister ,called Martin. There was some connection to the Mc Alister family, although I have never been able to work it out and I've done a lot of research since then !!We did find them - they were both in their 80's so they would have been born c 1870's. Is there a Martin/Mc Alister connection in your tree? Agnetta

Hi All,
I wonder if anyone has information on the ancestors of William Martin (1668-1743) of Killynure, Down.
Thanks for any assistance!
cheers,
Beth

William Martin (1668-1743) of Killynure, Down (located between Carryduff and Saintfield and 8 miles west of Comber); died and buried Comber, Down. He married Mary Orr (1674-1719) She was the daughter of John Orr and Mary McBurney, and so granddaughter of James Orr and Janet McClement) of Clantinacally (also known as Clontonakelly, located just north of Carryduff), Down; died and buried Comber, Down. 1, 2

1 Jones, Ray A. compiler, Ulster Pedigrees Descendants - In Many Lines of James Orr and Janet McClement: Who Immigrated from Scotland ca 1607 (San Francisco, California, US: 1977). Citing the research of Aiken McClelland “a highly respected researcher, historian and author of County Down books; "Gravestone Inscriptions, County Down", compiled by R. S. J. Clarke and published by the Ulster-Scot Historical Foundation; "Cleland Cousins", a genealogy of Samuel Cleland and Jane Martin and their descendants in America compiled by Glenn and Rebecca Oliver (1962); and his own research. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/105634?availability=Family%20History%20Library

I think perhaps William Martin's grandfather will be John Martin who came over from Scotland with Montgomery like James Orr. The earliest mention of Martin is that he was a tradesman assisting Hugh Montgomery in building the port and town of Donaghadee in about 1607. 1, 2

Still under copyright so not available online, but Jennie, member of this super group, graciously copied the page that has this information. Unfortunately, no other information about the families and where in Scotland they came from was given.
