Looking for James Bruce b about 1856 in Foreglen, Banffshire.

He moved to London around 1887.

His wife's name was Jessie.

Would anyone be able to seek him out on the records for me.

Thank you  ;D

Don't know if this is your James, but on familysearch.org I found a James Bruce married a Jessie Mair, 12 October, 1871, Seafield, Banff. How sure are you about his birthdate as this would make him only about 15 at the time.  A date of death was given as 14 April, 1937.

Also, on the 1901 UK census there is a James Bruce, born about 1856 in Scotland, living in Essex.

Hope this helps.

Hi Carolyn

Thanks for the message, sorry it's taken a while to get back to you.  Apparently this James Bruce married a Jessie Murdoch.

The free search on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk finds one marriage of a James Bruce to a Janet Murdoch in 1883. Janet and Jessie are interchangeable names - see www.whatsinaname.net

Suggest that you go to Scotland's People and buy a copy of the certificate, which will tell you the full names of the couple's parents.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

This one looks possible, but unfortunately the English enumerators seem to have regarded Scotland as a single place of birth.  Not much changes really!

1891 Census, District: West Ham, Municipal Ward: Canning Town, Ecclesiastical Parish: St Marks
Scotland: Smith, Lanarkshire; Black, Lanarkshire; Gray, Linlthgow, Lanarkshire; Gill, Aberdeenshire; Jarvis, Aberdeenshire
England: Hayman, Kent; Rigden, Kent; Carlton, Kent; Holtum, Kent.
