How to acces Griffith information
« on: Sunday 12 March 06 21:47 GMT (UK) »
I believe I have found my ancestor in Kilcornan, Limerick. What information would be on the full record on the Griffith Evaluation? Would it list his wife? How would I recognize it was him for sure as there are two with the same first name but different Townlands in Kilcornan. Where do I get these records?
Thankyou

The Griffith's valuation, was a land valuation, and will only show the name of the leaser, the person who owns the land, and place where the land is.
If there are two of the same names in the same area, these could be two separate individuals or sometimes they are even the same person who is leasing the land.
The advantage to it is that if your sure you have the right person you can cross reference it with the accompanying map and find out exactly where your ancestor lived.

You can access it at your local FHS, the following link will show you what they hold, you most likely will have to order the films.
