Thomas William Illston died chichester 1986
« on: Sunday 12 March 06 23:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

does anyone know of this person - he's a very big brick wall!  >:( He may possibly have been married to an Olive Illston

If it's the same chap, he might also have been married to Elsie I Osborne in Newark and had two children - Richard and Robert

He also had a brother called Roland - father was William, mother was Bertha -

many thanks

lynnette

just a thought - would the local paper have covered the funeral?  If so, how could I view this?  I know he died December 1986 - the paper might give names of mourners etc.

According to the England & Wales, Death Index: 1984-2002, your Thomas William Illston was born 24 Mar 1912.

His birth isn't on Free BMD, but you can find it in the GRO index images (free) at http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx - ordering a birth cert will confirm parents' names.

Then you need to look for marriages c1930 onwards in the same index - takes a while, but it's usually possible, especially with a fairly unusual name like Illston.

I've got the birth certificate, and  can trace the family back quite a way.  I'm now looking to see if this person had any children.  I've looked through 1837online, and think I have found two sons - Richard and Robert from Newark, with an Elsie Osborne

I wondered if the local paper had covered an obituary for the death, then other family members might be listed as mourners

You could try contacting The Chichester Observer newspaper directly & seeing if they have an archive which might include 1986, which wasn't that long ago.
