Harlands
« on: Monday 13 March 06 03:01 GMT (UK) »
I am try to find a John Harlan who had a Daughter named Margaret (she married a George Padget in 1840 in South Cave) I am also looking for George's Parents which were not listed on Marriage record. I am hoping that by locating John Harland that perhaps I may locate George's parents. I do not know if there was a census in 1831 or anytime around that time but if there was could someone take a look please. If you have other suggestion they would be welcomed. Thanks

Hello John

Had a look through South Cave 1841 Census HO107/121710 results were -

page 7b West End
Elizabeth Padget 80 farmer
William          "     15

page 11b West Street
George Padget 20 ag lab
Margaret   "       20

page 13a   ?    Place
John Harland 70 ag lab
Mary       "      60
Ann         "      40
Charles    "      25  ag lab
Jane        "      20
Thomas Waundby  75 ag lab      (Waundby is best guess, poor writing)
John Harland 30 ag lab

page 33b    ?    Field
Ambrose Padget 40 ag lab
Wm Ireland 40  ag lab

All above born in County, no other detail given.

In the 1841 census the ages over 15 are rounded down to the lower 0 or 5

Thank you for the information, can I ask you a couple of questions. George and Margaret listed John Harland as her Father one of the Johns is 50 years older and one is 10 years older. should I assume that these are the wrong Harland's or that the ages may be wrong? Is there a way to find that out? I suppose that perhaps Ann may be the mother of Margaret and that John is gone on page 13a or that John & Mary kept having children that late in life?

Hello John

I posted all I could find and did have a look at North Cave and surroundings, I do not have an index for the area so it was a browse through the pages. Very little detail is given on the 1841 and ditto`s do not necessarily mean sons or daughters or even wife, it means the same name that is all, other proof is needed. I would think neither of the Johns are the one you are looking for, the ages are too far out.
What you need is the Parish Records or better Bishops Transcripts which are available for the years you are looking at, they usually have a lot more detail than Parish Records, and are available for South Cave they are on Fiche I think at Beverley Archives.
East Yorkshire Family History Society cover the area they may have something published
also try the sites below for info.
