Budden/ Miles marriage
« on: Monday 13 March 06 11:06 GMT (UK) »
Charles Miles married Sarah Budden on 8/11/1826.
In 1851 they are in Woodlands with children Thomas, George & Elizabeth who are all born c 1835-c1842. Also with them are William & Ann BUDDEN born c 1841 -c1842 and stated as Grandchildren. They are obviously not Grandchildren but what relation are they ?
Any help to solve this puzzle would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Geoff

Are you sure they couldn't be grandchildren of Sarah? Perhaps she could have had a child from an early marriage, or out of wedlock, who was the parent of these children.

In 1841 the family appears in Woodlands as follows:

Charles Miles 40 ag lab
Sarah do. 40
Ellen do. 10
Elizabeth do. 8
Harriet do. 6
Thomas do. 2
Anne (?) Buddon 22 (probably Anne, but hard to read)
William do. 3
Elizabeth do. 2 months

Unfortunately the page is very faint and hard to discern, but Sarah could have been a teenaged mother to Anne (?) and a grandmother to any children of Anne.

Hi Anna,
I do take your point-
In 1851 are William & Ann Budden.
In 1841 are William & Elizabeth.
The DOB's  are close and perhaps Ann & Elizabeth are the same person but on the 1841 record shown on the Dorset OPC the familes are not numbered together and I did not originally connect them.

Regards,
Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

Possibly it might turn out that Elizabeth and Ann are the same person, though with close-but-not-identical ages and different names I'd be looking for separate individuals to start with.  Elizabeth may have died in infancy - FreeBMD has a death of an Elizabeth Budden in Wimborne Dec 1841 (Wimborne 8 96), though no age indicated. Also in Wimborne (which I think is the correct district for Woodlands) an Ann Budden died Dec 1847 (Wimborne 8 95) - again impossible to tell much from that without the certificate, but she might be the "Anne" from 1841.
