peach/paul
« on: Monday 13 March 06 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Any help would be appreciated on the following:-

I am looking at my Paul/l - Peach branch in my tree and trying to find out what happened to William Peach.

The information i have is as follows:

William Peach, chr. Jan 7,1816, Broadwinsor son of Simon Peach,( b. ca 1789 and chr. Jun 19, 1791) mother Sarah Reader,( b. ca 177Cool married 1838, Ann Paul, dau of Henry Paul.
I have found Ann Peach (nee Paull) on the 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881 census. On all the census apart from 1881 she is listed as married but no william peach is listed with her. In 1881 she is widowed so i am assuming that he died between 1871 and 1881.

My question is what did William Peach die and where was he living between them getting married (183Cool and when he died?

Any help appreciated

Kelly

Hi Kelly

Do you have the marriage cert for the couple?

William's profession might be a big clue.  Although occupations such as mariner and fisherman took menfolk away from home, there were also grooms, butlers, and even agricultural workers who lived-in at their work.  Were children born to the couple during this time?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

i don't have the marriage certificate but i know when they were married if anyone can look at the certificate.

i can't remember where the information came from but i have it in my head that he was a soldier, however, i did find this entry in 1861

In 1861 there is an entry in the census for St. Andrew, Plymouth, Devon:

George Moreton (Head) (34) Carpenter b. Plymouth.
HARRIET (Wife) (31) b. CHETNOLE, Dorset
Elizabeth (daur) (2) b. Plymouth
WILLIAM PEACH (46) Brother-In-Law. Pte. In Royal Marines b.CHETNOLE, Dorset.

A William Peach likely to be that same fellow is visiting the Davies household in Breage, Cornwall in 1851 - he is a 33 yr old marine private b. Chetnole, and with him are Alice Peach (32, b Breage), daughter Lucy, 2 b Sithney (?) Cornwall, and son William, 9 months, b Devonport, Devon.  The relationship between William and Alice is not made clear - both are down as "visitor".
