Shankill
« on: Tuesday 14 March 06 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Is there a kind soul that lives near the Shankill (Armagh) burial grounds willing to look for the Williscroft/Williscraft family??? This is such an uncommon name that  I'm not having any luck finding anything in Ireland. I know for sure that the family was in the area, from 1740, till at least 1822. I have tried finding an address for the local Parish, but have not been able to find one. I also need birth or chistening's for William Williscroft and Sarah Neils children, Shankill, William, John, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Benjamin, James 1796-1822. ANY THING will help. ??? ???
thank you
Charlene

Hello Charlene,

I'm going to take a chance that your ancestors were Anglican (Church of Ireland) .. perhaps you would post a message on the board confirming this or stating which faith the Williscroft family followed. I have no way of knowing if any Lurgan people in the Parish of Shankill are RootsChat members. So many members do not give a location it adds to the headaches of the search. I'm doing my best to get round this problem by contacting a mixture of acquaintances, librarians, local historical societies, priests and rectors in the area of any given search. One of the Belfast members was searching for ancestors a few miles away from the Lurgan Parish of Shankill and visited the area but I do not know if she needs to return there. In the meantime there are six contacts complete with phone numbers for the Shankill Parish Church of Christ the Redeemer, Church Place, Lurgan. There is an email contact at the right hand side when you open the link.

All the Best, Chris
