Hi

Have you tried searching the Cheshire Parish records site http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/, there is a Molly Lane born 1779 with a father named Sigismund, looks as if it may be a lead for you.

I would also try the IGI for Liverpool which seems to be a favourite with Wirral folks, you never know you might be lucky. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/

hope this helps

Hi

It is always best to ask for a lookup for one person at once.

Always state the lookup you require IE birth, marriage, death or census etc.

Always give as much relevant info that you have for that person IE if looking for a census lookup, state dob, where, siblings and parents and the previous census address, really as much info as you think will help someone identify the person your looking for.

hope you find the above usefull

Welcome from me too Annakin.

Can you tell us about Sigismund anyway? :)

In the future someone else researching him might come across this thread. Google searches often lead to rootschat.  :)

Pughy was trying to identify Sigismund Lane's parents but he will struggle. Sigismund was a foundling, handed over to London's Foundling Hospital in 1757, probably by a disconsolate mother who was a single parent. From there, he was sent to the Chester branch hospital, aged 7, and handed over for care by a local nurse. He was apprenticed to a weaver in Willaston on the Wirral, aged 11.
The life of many foundlings is hard to trace and those we can trace often had a pitiful life. So Sigismund is unusual in that we know he lived in the same area for many years, married, had several children, had a long life and was described as a 'farmer'. So, from the humblest possible origins, he did well for himself. I'm sure his descendants would love to know!
(By the way - I know this as I'm writing a history of Chester's Foundling Hospital)
