A good moan
« on: Friday 17 March 06 12:55 GMT (UK) »
I'm going to have a good moan in hope that it might make me feel better.

I recently swapped family tree info with a chap who's 5 x gt grandfather is the brother of my 4 x gt grandfather. I have now discovered that he has put all my information, including lines that are not connected to the original line we wrote about, on to a genealogy site.  He's gone sideways, upwards and down again from various spouses. Cheek ! Has this happened to anyone else?   Do other people have a cut off point when swapping info?

Isn't this just NAME COLLECTING rather than Genealogy?

Anyway that my moan for the day - I feel better now

Why not contact him and say that you are happy to have the family line info on GR but as he isnt related to the otherlines to please remove them. I have done this in the past

I don't see why you'd want that much info! I couldn't be bothered....

When I've info swapped, I push back parents and siblings, then I usually put in the person I swapped with out of politeness!!

As for GenesReunited, don't even get me started about the people in the community there..... :-X

Oh well, twist my arm!

They are the rudest most unhelpful bunch I have ever come across. REALLY protective of the message boards...

Some unfortunate woman made the mistake of posting a "have had a success but am still trying to find..." message on the success board. If this was the wild west she would have been tarred, feathered and run out of town!!

Bitchy posts about it then popped up on all the other boards. I was pretty shocked to be honest.

Then they all have bees in their bonnets about non-paying members (this is for a site which is under £10 to join anyway) and about how they don't deserve help.

I am pointing people this way  8)
ooo look at me moan!

That has happened to me too!

But my moan was this one:

A couple of months ago I had an email from a chap doing a one name study with connections to my tree (and if you should read this you know who you are!!!)

It was a very terse email, on the verge of rudeness telling me one of the names on my trees was connected to the wrong parents.  Where did you get your information from? he asked.  I investigated and yes he was right and I found the right parents.  I emailed him back explaining that I had been given the information by a distant cousin and it had not been checked out because it was so distant.  I had started on the nearer cousins.  I was sorry and added that I had found the correct parents plus a whole lot of information about that line which I sent to him.

I didn't even get a thank you let alone an acknowledgement to my email.  In future I will ignore rude emails like that.

I am on the verge of emailing him on the pretence of checking whether he received my email because I have had no reply.
