Must admit most people I have had dealings with through GR have, at least, been polite. A few haven't bothered to answer but if they can't be bothered, it's their loss.

HOWEVER,
I emailed a guy about a possible connection regarding a Thomas Drinkwater. I do not have a great deal on this person but do know mine married an Amy Hill so that was the question I asked.

His reply "look at each others trees to find out".

If he cant be ar**d to answer me, i'll look elsewhere.

I do not give access to my tree until I establish some form of connection (make sure you untick the box when using hot matches)

I've found all my research springing up on loads of people's trees. I even had to email someone and ask them to remove me as I haven't a clue where they got me from as I was a very very distant rellie!

I have contacted many very nice people on GR but have never ventured as far as the chat room bit.
So ,being a nosey person , I decided to pop over there to see what it was about .Good grief ,it looks as though it's been taken over by a porn site ,at present there's a lot of talk about sexy undies.
Now I could be by no means called a prude ,but honestly ,I've got better things to do with my time ,like wandering around this fantastic site.
I've had help from all over with very helpful ,cheerful and above all ,friendly folk .
Nah , give me rootschat anyday ,if I ever felt the need to be ungrateful and rude about people,I'll find the appropriate site for it.
Thank You ,all Rootschatters for many hours of INFORMATIVE fun.
VENT OVER!!

I removed my Tree from GR and didn't renew my membership because I was fed up of getting messages asking to "view my tree", and there was no offer of information either :(

I have found 4 or 5 family members on GR so I wouldnt rule it out - but I think you have to play it safe where info trading comes into it.

I've found two new rellies and a whole other line from GR, so I can't really say tooooo much against them.  Must admit though I've never gone to the chat rooms.   Isn't there some way you could complain to GR and get the offending messages taken off??   I'm sure if they realised it was being used as a virtual porn site, they would soon do something about it - or maybe not, you never know these days.

I belong to Genes Reunited and had the good luck [after 2 years mind you!!!] to be contacted by a distant younger relative in New Zealand. We are now exchanging family photos and papers. Her G.Grandmother was my aunt Elizabeth Hughes[ married an Owen]. That was great but my slight moan is the hot matches part, several people i contacted have been decent enough to message me in return to say 'yes' or 'no' but lots of my requests have been ignored and as someone on here has already said "why go on to GR unless you follow things up?" ::) Poli
