1841 Lookup Please... Cowx
« on: Saturday 18 March 06 17:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am keen to find out which members of the Cowx family are listed in 1841.

The particular branch I am looking for reside in Bassenthwaite, particularly looking for John (bc1804); George (bc1810) and William (bc1822).

Any others would also be useful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ange,

Thanks.  You've picked up the Senior John which is great but there's also his son John (bc1804) making him around 37 in 1841, definitely no sign of him?

Now need to track George in 1851 census which may also show William. Do you have access to the 1851 census?

thanks again,

Frank

Hi Ange

Thanks again.

I think I'll have to dig abit more about William. My problem is there are so many Cowx families in Cumbria (Bassenthwaite, Uldale, Whitehaven, Workington, Penrith etc) that working out who is related to who is going to take me a few more years  ;D

Hope you don't mind if I call on your services again at some point.

Hi Frank

Did you ever find out anything more about your Cowxes?  I see from the censuses that your elusive William turns up in the 1861 census at Bassenthwaite in the same house as his widowed sister Sarah Slater and her children, still unmarried. As he is listed there as a commercial traveller, I should have thought he is indeed the William Cowx found by Ange in Middlesbrough, also as a commercial traveller, in the 1851 census, and that "Carlisle" there is a mistake.

I can't find your John b. 1804 in either 1841 or 1851, even though I have also looked for him as John Cox and John Cowse (which I know is an alternative spelling of the name).

My own tree has, in case this information is of any use to you, an Ann Cowx born Crosthwaite in 1854, who married an Isaac Cartmel; their first child was a William Cowx Cartmel or William Cowse Cartmel (b. 1888).

I hoping someone can help me and my Aunt find her grand father (possibly father) and father.  Grand father's name is Samuel Cowk he is from Cumberland apparently, however I cannot find him anywhere.  He was married to a woman name Ada, and they had a son name Ernest.  They moved to Vancouver BC Canada at some point, but all the searches I have done have come up with nothing, as well as not finding Samuel Cowx anywhere?.....If someone can help me link his name to Cumberland i would be extremely grateful, as would my Aunt, she knows very little of her grand father and father, Samuel could actually be her father as well, know one is quite sure.  Samuel past away in 1945 46 after a fall painting in Vancouver BC.  We are not sure what happen to Ernest except that I did see that an Ernest moved back to the UK in the mid 1940's from Canada through New York.

I look forward to anyone who can help me!! Cheers!
Lisa (Helgason) Thomas, and Joan (Cowx) Helgason
I am looking for the Mcnab/Day family in Liverpool?  My great  grand father was Adam John Mcnab and it looks like he was born 1898. His mothers name is Dora Day, who eventually moved to Vancouver, BC Canada or to Canada through the United States.  Any help or connections would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi :)

How old was Sam when he died in 1945ish?

There was an S COWK 14 crossed to Canada in Oct 1911 but I haven't yet found him on a census.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
