as an aside to this posting mack, am I right in thinking that if he had been an officer in the light Infantry (Somerset or otherwise) he would have worn a Sam Browne only it would have been black in colour to "blend" in better with the dark green uniform?

certainly rifle regiment officers wore black sam brownes and their buttons were black, i don't think light infantry regiments did, as for the green uniform???......hmmm i thought that had been dropped by this time  ( i'm not an expert on this) they'd be wearing normal infantry colours

i suspect and only by colour, that he's wearing patrol blues ( but ................)

below a famous rifleman..note the black buttons

i agree chris, the uniform does look darker than the normal issue, the LI usually have a light green piping around their rank stripes or badges, hes not wearing any pips on his shoulders,BUT,he could be an officer cadet/training corps,i reckon old rowleys spot on with regt and date range, mack

Green Patrols (No1 Dress) were still in use & would more likely to be worn with a cross belt than Sam Browne.  The Sam Browne would have been worn with No2 Dress (Service Dress)
