Hi,

Apologies for the delay,Ive been trying to learn the ropes of how to get thing right for the past few days.

Many thanks for all the interst shown. I've now got some alternatives to explore.

I had no idea about the trade directories.

Christopher Williams of Gurney street. Could be. However I don't think I will ever be certain. Nor can I be certain of any of the other suggestions offered.
All to be explored.

Regarding Lilian Sewell. I have her details from the 1891 census as well as birth and death details. In some respects it does appear she had a life and a half. How pleaseant she considered it I don't know. However she does have an interesting story to tell.

Again thanks to all for the interst and help

Now I have to go and do some more swatting up on the correct way of doing things here.

Hi,
Have you thought of joining the local family history society where Lilian lived?
You should be able to write an article for their journal asking if other members who know the area know of the sweet company that they could have worked for.

There could also be others researching your family names.

Hello

I believe that there was (and possible still is) a large Tate and Lyle factory in this area. Unfortunately, I don't have any evidence to hand but perhaps someone else may have more information.

Hi again,

Tate & Lyle in Silvertown, if I remember correctly. A possibility, however I'm confident I'm looking for an area of sweet manufacture.

Again the drawback is there are so many possibilities; it's where to start.

Family History Society. I am a member of the Sole Society. They are researching the four variants of the name Sole. Sewell is one of them. I have had two articles published and am about th confuse them even more.

Lilian Sewell's mother was a Mary Sewell, late Readings, formerly Lees.. She first appears on their records and the census in 1881 in Brixton. However there does not seem to be a record of her marriage to Lilian's Father: William Henry Sewell where it should be: 1874 - 1876. In 1876 Mary had a son William Walter.

The next twist is Mary Readings is supposed to have died in 1864, according to a contact at GenesReunited who is a researching the Readings Family. Her husband Thomas is recorded as dying in 1874 in Albany road, Camberwell at the same address where William Walter was born.

1881. William Henry, Mary and William Walter Sewell were living at Foxley Road, Brixton. They had a lodger: Thomas John Henry Readings. The first son of Mary and Thomas Readings.

Again I can't find a death for Mary Readings.

I'm certain all these twist and turns have a relevance to the story.

Again thanks for the interest
