1891 Cambridge Census
« on: Wednesday 06 October 04 14:29 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot.

1891 Census

Looking for Frederick Stamford b. 1847, Bassingbourne Cambs and his wife Mary Ann Stamford b. 1856/7

He should be a butcher. There should be children.  They were in London for the 1881 and 1901 census, but strangely absent for the 1891 Census.  I am wondering if they went to his home for a visit during the census period.

1841 and 1861 Census:

Also looking for the prescence of Stephen Stamford, b,. 1812 Kneesworth and his wife Ann Stamford born roughly 1812 Royston.  Were all in Bassingbourne for 1851 Census, but would love to know where they were in 1841 and 1861.  He was a tailor.

Regards

KA

Hi KA,

I replied to this earlier regarding the 1891 census and the family being in Islington. I searched the entire 1891 online census and could find any match for Mary Ann and Frederick.

In 1891 I can see a Mary A Stamford age 36 born Royston Cambridgeshire residing in  the county of London, but that's as much detail as I can get.

There is also a Frederick Stamford age 42 showing as being born in Cambs and residing in Cambs, but the search doesn't respond to a birthplace of bassingbourn, so it might not be him.

Unfortunately in 1861 Bassingbourn was included in the Hertfordshire returns, so is not on my Cambs CDRom.

Hi Ka,

Some great searches from the lads and lasses ! We would love to know if Nicky is right  ???

If we do a search that proves negative it is still worth knowing and passing on as it is one avenue that has been checked !

You're right Sarah, I should have posted a reply sooner.  Sorry lads and lasses. However, it's still a work in progress.

I've got two Fredericks, both with Father's called Stephen, both born around the same time.  Both married Mary's and both born in Royston/Bassingbourne and moving to London. One is mine, and one isn't.  And at the moment, it's difficult to tell them apart. There are also two Ann Stamford's of the same age and place too.

I've been on the Cambridge 41/51 website.  Very good.
But at the moment I can't see where a single Mary Ann Stamford and Frederick and Adelaide come into it.
Although I know I have come across an Adelaide in my trawls.

Many thanks for everyones help

Regards

KA

Hi I think I have good news for you I have your Stephen and Ann who I think is Ann Marshall but not sure in a tree I am working on. They have a son Frederick born <1848>

This is Stephen in 1841

Stephen Stamford 30   Tailor
Ann        stamford  30
William   Stamford  6
Alfred     Stamford  4
Arthur    Stamford  2
Philip      Stamford  11mts

from the 1851 index this is how they look

Stephen  Stamford  39
Ann          Stamford  40
Alfred       Stamford  13
George    Stamford    6
Frederick  Stamford   3
Emily         Stamford  1

in 1871 they look like this

Stephen  Stamford  60
Ann          Stamford  60
William     Stamford   19

(living in Bassingbourn)

Frederick and wife Mary had a daughter Elizabeth  <1877>

Have loads more info if this is the same family and I am corresponding with a lady who is related to this family through Fredericks grandparents and she has a whole bust of info on Stamfords. Look forward to hearing from you. Anjo
