Hi Sandyq

I think our messages "crossed".

Its amazing what help a fresh pair of eyes is on a puzzle!  I had found the 1902 birth before and dismissed it as it was before the date of marriage.  But...  might it explain why they disappeared to Market Bosworth to marry when the baby was only 6 months old?  And as age at marriage was 20 and not 16 also add a few years on to bride's age, (but why she didn't say sge was 21 I don't know!)

:o :o If it is the correct William it means his mother gave birth at 15!!

I shall really have to investigate this one!!

Thanks once again

So, 2 William Edward's in Warwick area (1902 and 1910), both possibilities! One before, one after the possible marriage.

I have been looking for them on Ancestry - at present they have the same scanned images of the index pages as 1837online, only for free!! Don't know for how much longer. It is just a case of going through a quarter at a time, just the same as one does in person with real books if you go to the FRC in London. After a bit you can go through quite quickly!

No deaths of a child called William Edward from 1902 to 1910, so there are 2 of them around. It is not a case of one family re-using the name after a child has died in infancy. One could be 'Billy' and the other could be related in some way, or not!!

My gtgrandfather's first wife (well, only wife if you want to be picky as he doesn't seem to have married my gtgrandmother officially) was 16 and 1 day when she married but claimed to be 19. No idea why  ::)

Have been giving age at marriage some thought and wondered if the age of consent was still 16 in 1903?  And the age for parental consent 21? If so perhaps some clergymen were happy to accept 19 or 20 without the hassle of getting parental consent but would query a 16 year old. And in the case of William's bride, maybe she also said she was 20,as she had a 6 month old child in tow, to prevent William getting into even more trouble?

Does this seem a possible explanation? :-\

Thanks lizdb,.  for checking out the deaths, at least i know there were 2 young Williams around - and yes they probably will be some relative if not the one I'm looking for?

But......as Sarah wasn't married in 1902, would the child be able to be registered with William's surname?  Or was it altered after their marriage as he would no longer be illegitimate?  I shall have to read up on that one.

Thanks again
