Perhaps there should be a board called the 'Darker side'!

I'll see if Kodak respond to my emails, give the camera to my workmate tomorrow and then have a ride to our nearest (20 miles) camera shop at the weekend and do some grovelling (promise to come back for an SD card etc). Mind you I do need some printer paper!

Hi Andy

Just a Suggestion which you may have already done..

Have you Unstalled the software and drivers from the Other Camera..Sometimes it maybe a Configeration problem where the Kodak is trying to work from the drivers of your other camera

If  possible do a search of files and folders to unstall the other camera

Hope this helps

Hi Iria

Funny you should say that. I've just tried using my old Trust camera through the Kodak software and there is no problem whatsoever. Even made the pictures look a bit better than the Trust software! So I am now almost convinced the problem lies with the camera.
The Kodak software cannot even show a thumbnail from the Kodak cameras memory. XP managed to show the thumbnail when Kodak software was uninstalled but couldn't copy to computer.

I've had enough for tonight but I might have a go at uninstalling the Trust software tomorrow (especially as I can use the Kodak software with the Trust camera) to check your idea out.

Hi Andy

Have you tried uninstalling the Kodak software and using just XP-provided software. I use both Canon and Minolta cameras but have never used their software.

Hi Everyone

Things have taken a very confusing turn. I've been round to a friends house and his XP wizard transfered pictures from the camera with no problems.

Back round to my computer and after doing a restore to before I got the camera, I tried to use the XP wizard. It can see the camera and the pictures but it just cannot transfer them! I wish I had tried the wizard before I installed the Kodak software, then I would know if my computer had a problem already or if the Kodak software has conflicted with something. (but why can other photo software on my computer still work?)

I'm not sure what to do now. Any one have any bright ideas?

Oh well I may as well start uninstalling all my other photo programs and see what happens.

Andy

Think it's difficult to say without having a look. Could you persuade your friend to come around and take a peek :-\

Hi Gadget

Any idea what a 'Prefetch' is?

I've just had an email from Kodaks support team and they suggest disabling a file called drst.exe
There are only two files vaguely like this in my computer. One being part of my internet package and one in a folder called Prefetch. I'm waiting now to find out if the 'prefetch' one is the one to disable and how.

No sure offhand but I do recognise the name :-\ I'd go into www.microsoft.com and use their info section if I were you.

Hi Gadget

Hmmm I've just had a google at 'Prefetch'.

If I have it right, XP likes to look fast by loading bits of the individual programs we use into the prefetch file, sort of having a cup on your workstation rather than in the kitchen. You can pour yourself a drink quicker and XP appears to operate quicker. Only problem is that once you have a cup, a plate, the phone etc close to hand you have a clutter that slows you down instead. Seems XP does the same filling up value disk space. It appears the prefetch file can be empty periodically to regain some space and a little speed.

Better take my cup and plate back to the kitchen. Now dare I delete all those prefetch files???
