Barnes/Ticehurst 1841 Census
« on: Thursday 23 March 06 14:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello,  New to board looking for information on my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandparents. Here is information I have.
Great Great Grandmother Eliza Ticehurst b. England March 2,1829 daughter of Richard Ticehurst, a farmer and Jane Starr.
Great Great Grandfather John Barnes b England (unknown where) in 1831 son of Thomas Barnes, a miller and Jamime Oliver residents of Hollington,East Sussex, England.

It is known that both Great Great Great Grandparents were from Hollington, married in the parish church of Hollington by the Vicar Henry J. Rush on January 5,1852.

I am trying to locate information  on Thomas Barnes and Jamime Oliver and also Richard Ticehurst and Jane Starr.
Since I am very new to this any help would be greatly appreciated!
Barnes,John b 1831 Hollington  Ticehurst,Eliza b.1829 Hollington

Hi Chiapet

First of all, welcome to Rootschat and especially the Sussex Boards.

Have just scrolled through the 1841 census for Hollington and district, and, whilst there are at least 4 references to Ticehurst families - there is nothing that matches your criteria. Eliza, daughter of Richard & Jane.

Have also looked for the Barnes surname, and again there is some 6 entries, but non that match your criteria of John, Thomas & Jamine.

Do you have them on the 1851 census?

Hi

The Barnes are proving a little more difficult to find - I have been through the 1841 and 1851 for Ninfield, but as yet have not been able to locate them

But I am not giving up just yet

Hi Chiapet

Found them in 1851 in Dallington

HO107/ 1636/ Folio 471/ Page 19 - Dallington, Sussex

John Hyland Junr, 35, born Dallington, Sussex, Head - Farmer of 24 acres.
Jemima Hyland, 42, born Fern, Sussex, Wife
George Hyland, 5, born Dallington, Sussex, Son
Ann Hyland, 3, born Dallington, Sussex, Daughter.
Hannah Hyland, 4months, born Dallington, Sussex, Daughter.
Frederick Barnes, 18, born Ashburnham, Sussex, Son-in-law.
John Barnes, 12, born Battle, Sussex, Son-in-law.

Looks as though her first husband has died and she has remarried John Hyland junr.  The 'Son in Law' against Frederick & John really means 'Step Children'

Hope that helps

Hi again

Also found them in the 1841 census

HO107/ 1108/ 10 - Hoades Corner

Hyland John, 70, Ag Lab               (senior)
..........  Mary, 70
..........  John, 25                            (junior)
..........  Jemima, 25
BARNES John, 8
............  William, 2

All born in county of Sussex

All the information ties up with what was in the 1851 census, but the kids christain names have got mixed up, but their ages are consistent to the 1841
