Darling from Hull. Lookup please
« on: Friday 24 March 06 08:14 GMT (UK) »
I have some information about my grandmother's uncle who emigrated to Canada, sometime after the 1901 census in the UK. This is what I have:

Harry Darling born about 1882 in Hull, Yorkshire.
Married Edith Hopkinson from Bury in Winnipeg Canada about 1913
He died about 1962 in Victoria Canada.
They did have children - I think one was possibly Grace.

I'd love to find them on any census return at all, and would be grateful for any help.

My grandmother kept in touch with Harry until he died - none of the family thought to keep his address, so we lost touch with the Canadian branch.

All help appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks anyway Koromo. Yes, that's the right family. After Harry went to Canada he did keep in touch with my grandmother. We know she had a photograph of his house over there, but of course so much got thrown out after her death, and no-one can find it now. I'm hoping to find some of his descendants.

Good luck with your Darlings. It may well be the same family - I have only taken mine back one generation from Charles in Scarborough so they could easily be from Scotland.

Hi, lesleyhannah
There is a Henry Darling, age 23, Boarder, with Fred and Fanny Loveday
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census06/index.html
Manitoba, Winnipeg District, Subdistrict:05 F, Page 38, Line 19 - scroll to top - split screen, view lines: 13 - 21, original shows him living at 488 Jarvis, immigrated 1906.
He's not showing on automated genealogy's 1911 yet. hopefully when it is a little more complete they will implement  'person researching someone on this page' You add your contact info and a comment, i.e. grandmother's uncle, it would mark Henry with @ which indicates someone is researching him and allows others to contact you directly........a great way to make contact with living relatives :)

Am going to look at the links you've provided now . . . this sounds really hopeful.

I'll definitely take your advice about automated genealogy's 1911 - I hadn't heard of it before. I should think a lot of people on Roots will be grateful for that information.

Thanks for your help.
Lesley

Denise - managed a printout of the 1906 image - and am grateful for your instructions. Thanks again for your help.

Karen- I'm very grateful for the death information. With ref to your personal message, I have tried to contact the person you suggest, but so far had no reply from his email address (it's easy to forget you've got an out-of-date address on a website if you don't use it frequently). If I don't hear from him soon I'll try his snail mail address.

It may be that Harry and wife are on Victoria censuses. It opens up another option.

I'll let you know if I get any further with the search. Thanks again to everyone who's helped so far.

Hi Lesley,

Looking at that site, he has Edith passing away in 1988 in Victoria.  Also, the daughter Irene Grace was born in Winnipeg, so you would think Harry should be in Manitoba somewhere in 1911 if he was there in 1901.  Did you look at the 1906 census at automated genealogy to see if he's there?

Karen

I just seen that Denise gave you the info for 1906, sorry about that.

Any idea what Harry's occupation may have been?
