Thanks for that offer of the 1861 Census for Yorkshire.

My wifes ancestors were mainly in two villages in the West Riding as follows

Ilkley
Otley

Surname Lister

There were no more than two or three families in each place, one of which kept the Lister Arms public house.

Rather than posting again, I am modifying this message

When I managed to get the wife down off the ceiling after reading the printout of your message, I realized that the info you sent cleared up a mystery we have had for some 14 years.

This concerned the said Henry Lister, the farmers son (RG9-3213-101) who, according to the census was 15 in 1851, but then was only 39 in 1881, but jumped to age 52 in 1891 but only 55 in 1901.

Your information confirmed that he was 25 in 1861; this means that the 1851 and 1901 age details agree with the 1861 - so he was a 'LIEING TOAD'  in 81 and 91 (probably because he married a much younger woman in 1873).
Because of the big age fluctuation, we were convinced we had the wrong Henry - but Hey, Thanks, we now know we had the right one all along.

Thank you so much for my Vicary info.
I will have to get some certs to confirm it,  but this looks like my GG-Grandfather,  and interestingly he was a twin!!

If I could prevail upon your good nature once again,  I wonder if you can find his wife for me,  all I have is:
Mary Ann Sharland or Shorland,  born 1851 Crediton Devon,  it is possible she was born before the census or maybe the name is rare and there are only a few possibilities?
