McVeety
« on: Thursday 07 October 04 18:46 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a George McVeety born between 1819 and 1824 in Ireland.Cavan is a possibility. His father was named as William McVeety, occ Joiner on his marriage certificate in Manchester in 1840. George's wife was Margaret Balam, father Humphrey Balam but I am unsure whether she came from Ireland. It is possible that a sibling of George went to Pensylvannia USA because George's grand- daughter went to stay with a relative in the USA after her parents died but she had returned to Manchester by 1899. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Hi,

In the Griffith's Valuation there were 8 McVeety households left in Cavan, 2 in Fermanagh, 3 in Monaghan, 1 in Dublin and 2 in Longford.

That's a lot to search through

I am still searching :) The only other info I have is that George was born in Cavan <1823>. Margaret Balam was also born in Cavan <1823>. George may have had a brother William, and Margaret a brother Richard. They were all living in the same area of Manchester in 1861.
Many thanks for any info

Hi,

I think you have to go to the parish records in the 8 parishes found in the Griffith Valuation in Cavan and look for their baptisms.

Some catholic parishes records are available at your local family history centre and some are only in Dublin and Belfast.
