Geoff,

Looking at these it looks like he remarried Charlotte not long after marrying Elizabeth, for what ever reason. The plot thickens.

Regards

Paul

Elizabeth  "     Wife  M 55
Alice          "     dau   19 Gen Servant Domestic

A little more confusion for you.

The 1871 Census is under CLARK living in Chester
RG10/3730 Folio43 p4
Posnetts Court  ? Street  Chester

Henry Clark Head M 27  Plumber           b Chester
Elizabeth Clark Wife M 26                                "
Sarah        "      Mother   Widow 72         "
Elizabeth Powell  Sister Widow  40 Dom Cook  "
Albert  Clark        son  1                                     "
Henry Powell       nephew  11                  b Shrewsbury
Ann Ruffel?         mother in law M 67    Laundress  b Wrexham? Denbighshire

So as Sarah was the mother of Henry, the look up of Nessie was the correct family on 1851 Census.

The maiden name of Elizabeth was Ruffel but difficult to read the entry.

A marriage of Henry Clark(e) with Elizabeth Ruffel? would be interesting to find.

Geoff,

You have come up trumps again.  Henry Clarke b 1844 son Harry Clarke married   Annie Powell.
I have found a record in the Chester Registry Office of a marriage between Henry Clarke and Elizabeth Ruffell.

I will call this week and purchase the marriage certificate.

Thanks again.

Paul

I think that the Parish Records for Giggleswick are held in Skipton Library
High Street
Skipton
BD23 1JX
Tel: 01756 792926
Fax: 01756 798056
email: Reference & Local Studies

skipton.library@northyorks.gov.uk

I still suggest a posting on the Yorkshire West Riding board as I am not familiar with this region.
