I have been searching form my Gr-gr-grandfather's family in 1861 to no avail. I subscribe to ancestry.co.uk and have tried soundex and my own spelling variations and searched both the mainland and the channel islands. They were nowhere to be found (for that matter, I could not find them in 1851 either). I know they went from Porstmouth, Hampshire to St. Helier, Jersey. During my digging expedition, I came upon a page which stated there are numerous pages missing from the St. Helier 1861 census. I think that likely explains why I can't find them as I am relatively certain they were in St Helier by 1861 and could have been there by 1851. I am hoping someone might have the complete census for St Helier, 1851 & 1861 and might be willing to have a look for the family. They are as follows:
Thomas Bolton CUMMINGS, 1803 Portsmouth
Margaretta Evans CUMMINGS, 1815 Portsea
Thomas Bolton CUMMINGS, 1841 Potsmouth
Joseph CUMMINGS, 1842 Portsmouth
John Augusta CUMMINGS, 1850 Portsmouth
Any help would be most appreciated.
