St Albans church Pontypool
« on: Monday 27 March 06 21:45 BST (UK) »
Hi,

does anyone know where I can search the parish records for St Albans Church Pontypool?

Was this the only catholic church in Pontypool around 1850?

Regards

Jean Sandra

Hi,
The older records are deposited with the County Record Office in Croesycelliog. What info did you want?

Hi,

many thanks.

I was interested in Baptisms, marriages and burials for the Field family living in Pontypool in the mid 1800s. They were a Roman Catholic family from Ireland, possibly County Cork.

Regards

Jean

Hi Jean,
I found time to pop into the record office this morning and looked at three registers of baptisms - 1836 to 1864, 1862 to 1866, & 1860 to 1878. The following all have the surname Field - baptism dates :- Timothoeus 14/11/1841, Ellen 19/9/1863, Mary 21/5/1865, David, 29/9/1866, James 13/1/1867, William 30/6/1872, Mary Ann 30/6/1872, Charles 23/11/1872, Emily Cwmbran 27/6/1875, Maria Cwmbran 14/9/1876, Catherine 17/7/1877. I have more info - parents, mother's maiden name, D of B, God Parents. If these are your family it might be best if you give me your email addy - I can put the details on a spreadsheet - it's too much for here.
Incidentally for anyone else who reads this the registers also contain some details of other baptisms with an added note - Risca, Blackwood, Blaenavon, Abersychan, Cwmbran so I guess the people may have come from those areas - may be useful if you can't find "your" Baptism in the area where you expect it.
