Stokes - Masterbuilder

My Great Grandfather James John Stokes was a masterbuilder.  He was born in Starcross, but I think most of his working life he lived in and near Bovey Tracey.  Apparently he built many of the houses in the Decoy area of Newton Abbot including the Keyberry Hotel.  How do I go about finding details of the building work carried out around 1900's in this area?
