I have a similar story as well.

My roommate had invited guests to dinner one night (about 10 years ago this was) and the guest was doing most of the talking. By chance she happened to mention her ex-husband whose surname was Burrow. My ears perked up and I just HAD to interrupt.

You said Burrow - with no S?
Yes she said.
Did he come from (some small town),
no she'd never heard of it,
Well how about (the next largest town).
Oh yes he was from that town, why do you ask?

Coz my grandmother is a Burrow and I think he might be related to me.  I have a family tree upstairs if you want me to look.

Please do, I would love to see it.

So I checked my family tree and sure enough both his name and hers were on my family tree.  She gave me all the updated info about their children and grandchildren, which I was pleased to get. :)
Her ex-husband was my fathers first cousin (my first cousin once removed I think) and their children were my second cousins.
