help needed with Blore/Bloor please
« on: Friday 31 March 06 23:53 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
i am trying to solve a puzzle regarding my ggrandfather William Blore b 1867. When I came to view his gravestone, his surname was Bloor along with his wife Ann b 1873, however their daugher Hannah's birth cert was definitely Blore, how can this change occur?? It has caused many a headache!
Many thanks
Regards
Nerys

the gravestone was probably correct as it would have been made to the instructions of the family, then the census annnumerator probably was told the name and mis-spellt it on the form, cheers, kali.

Hi
Bloor and Blore are both names found in Stoke on Trent and both related to those whose ancestors fought at the Battle for Blore Heath near Market Drayton, plenty of info around the surnames if you Google your enquiries.
See also http://www.bloor.org/ Blo(o)r(e) Society website.
