I now have my grandfather's birth certificate
« on: Saturday 09 October 04 21:18 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Thanks for the collective effort of a number of people on this site, I now have my grandfather's, Edward Rutter, birth certificate.
It seems he was born on Aug. 13, 1864 in the registration district of Wisbech and subdistriction of Leverington in the county of Cambridge.
His father was Edward Rutter and his mother Elizabeth Rutter formerly Madmore.
The father was employed as a farm larborer.
My grandfather had 2 surviving siblings, Richard and Elizabeth.
If anyone could help me to find what happened to them, I would appreciate it.

Hi Waralan,

It is fantastic news that you have now found your Grandfather's Birth Certificate !! whohooo :)

The Siblings Richard and Elizabeth, when where they born ? Depending on their age you may be able to track them through the Census returns although you will have to keep an eye out for Elizabeth's Marriage.

I am not familiar with the Wisbech area or I do not know if you live within travelling distance?

Bye for now

Sarah :)

Sarah,
On the 1851 census data for the Wisbech area of Cambridgeshire, I have a Richard Rutter born on the March quarter of 1844 in Wisbech; Elizabeth Rutter born on the March quarter of 1846; and Edward Rutter born on the March quarter of 1849 in Wisbech.  It seemed that after the 1851 census, the younger Edward Rutter died.
Thus in 1864, my grandfather, also called Edward Rutter, was born.
The mother, Elizabeth, was 28 on the 1851 Wisbech census.

David,
Thanks for your help.  You won't find my grandfather as he wasn't born until 1864.
It would seem there were a lot of Edwards in the family.  My grandfather's father was Edward; then the couple had a son in 1849 and nammed him Edward.  He died sometime in 1851.  Finally in 1864 my grandfather was born and nammed Edward.

I couldn't trace Richard and family on the 1891 UK census, but it appears as though they emigrated to the USA

1900 US census
Gardner Village, Greenfield Township, Grundy Co., Illinois
Richard Rutter born Jan 1844 age 56 married for 32 yrs; born in England, parents born in England; arrived in US 1884, 16 yrs in the country, Labourer (day)
Hannah Rutter born Apr 1846 age 53 marr 32 yrs, had 14 children, 5 living; born in England, parents born in England; arrived in US 1885, 15 yrs in the country
George Rutter born May 1880 age 20; born in England, parents born in England; arrived in US 1885, 15 yrs in the country

Being in the US I assume that you can follow them from US censuses - let me know if you don't have access.

I'm still looking for Edward and Elizabeth plus family in 1861 (but not Edward born 1864!).

Did Edward b 1864 also emigrate to the US?

regards

David

I believe I've found them in 1861:
RG9/1047/26B
Decoy Rd, Leverington

Edward Rutter head married 44 ag lab born Outwell
Elizabeth Rutter wife 37 ag lab born Leverington
Emely Rutter 8 scholar b Leverington
Sarah Rutter 5 scholar b Leverington

Have you checked out the website of the Cambs FHS

http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

The baptisms and burials in Outwell will probably be of interest to you.

regards

David

Hi,
Thanks to you all for letting me know if my grandfather's brother and his family, Richard and Hannah, emmigrated to the States.
My grandfather was Edward Rutter, born in 1864, in Cambridgeshire.
Besides his brother, he left a sister, Elizabeth, born on 1846.

David,
In my family the names Edward and Elizabeth are as numerous as bunnies.  I am wondering if the second set with the 2 daughters as scholars are the same as the first.
