I don't have a doubt that Emily and Sarah are your grandfather's sisters.

Hi,
I know that my grandfather, Edward 1864, emmigrated first to Michigian, and that Richard and his family emigrated to Michigan.
That leaves the 3 girls.  Do you know what happened to Elizabeth, 1846, and the other 2 girls?  Did they get married?  Did they emmigrate here?
I guess I would like to find some of my relatives in England which I could start writing to.  My dad did until my grandfather, Edward 1864, died here in 1952.

David,
Would you happen to know of any relatives of Richard Rutter and the Edward Rutter who emmigrated here left in England?  They would be my distant relatives, and I would like to write to them.

Sorry, I don't have a clue if your grandfather's sisters, Emily, Sarah and Elizabeth have any descendants. Looking at the Freebmd website whose url I gave you I suspect that Emily died in the 3rd quarter 1876 age 23. But I do not know if Elizabeth or Sarah married and had children (whose surnames would not be Rutter)

Hi,
I know that his brother, Richard, emmigrated over here in 1884.  In 1885, Richard's wife, Hannah, and son, George, emmigrated to the states.
I further know that in 1920, they were living around Chicago, where George was employed as a railroad switch person.
George and his wife. Edith, had 2 sons, Harold and Robert Rutter.

Just to check my facts Richard Rutter came here first, than a year later his wife Hanah and son George came here.
David, maybe you can find what became of George Rutter.

Two years down the line I thought George the railroad switch person had switched this thread into a siding.

If you're asking if I can do US research I'm afraid not. You need someone your side of the Atlantic, or at least someone with access to US censuses.

You would stand more hope of success if you posted on the Emigrants to US board

But you said back on 21 Nov 2004 that you had him in 1920 in Chicago with wife Edith and sons Robert and Harold?

As I said, I don't do US research. I live in France. I wouldn't know where to start looking for a US marriage if it's not on the IGI.

Which it just might be!

Check www.familysearch.org. 14 May 1908 Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. George Rutter married Edith Spendlove. It might be your George. You'll need to check the marriage certificate to see if it has details of parents to confirm that it is the right George. I don't know what details an Illinois marriage certificate includes, nor do I know where you have to go to get a copy of the certificate (my own New York marriage cert does not include parents but it does give dates and places of birth, which in the case of George would be just as good. But that was New York in the 1990s not Chicago pre Al Capone).
