9th Earl of Derby
« on: Sunday 02 April 06 17:43 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any info on Willaim Stanley, the 9th Earl of Derby(?) I am looking for any descendants. Mostly any thing on a Zerviah Stanley who was possibly his daughter. She was born around1665 and apparently married against her families wishes.

Hi Palla,

William Stanley, 9th Earl of Derby, was born in 1656 - if your dates are correct, it is unlikely that Zerviah was his daughter.  Check out:

Thanks,
I was going on an article from Portsmouth, N.H. USA about a grave they discovered when they redid the road. It is quite interesting..."Tradition says that Mrs. Parker was Lady Stanley, a daughter of the Earl of Derby, who married William Parker in England, without the consent of the Earl; the current of her affections running more in the course of love than in pride of ancestry. She abandoned her claims to nobility, and with her husband fled to the new world. " "WILLIAM PARKER was married to Zerviah Stanley, daughter of the Earl of Derby, Feb.26, 1703, and came to Portsmouth, N.H. soon after. The family tradition is, that this was a love match. He was a gentleman of education," www.seacoastnh.com  By Charles W. Brewster there was more if you are interested.
Thanks for your help...I will keep looking, they family turned out important in thier own right... thier grandson Bishop Samuel Dunn Parker "At the time of the Revolution, he was a Royalist and offered to resign his parish when the other Royalists left. His people wished him to remain on the condition of omitting the King from his reading of the service, which he did. Holding his post as the only Church of England clergyman in Massachusetts throughout the Revolution." This is from family records and letters.
 Thanks once again,
Paula

Hi Paula !

Fascinating stuff!

Is this your family or did you just find a big interest in this story ? ... I know I have a habit of getting sidetracked myself !!  ::)

I found this - you probably already have it - but just in case ...

Annie,
This is my family. I am decesended from Richard Green Parker. He would be my 4th great grandfather. Do you by chance have any pictures of the door at Chatsworth House? I would love a copy, my 7 year old son plays the fiddle and he would be fascinated with that.
THANKS FOR THE HELP.

I hope that you are not confused Chatsworth although in Derbyshire is the home of the Duke of Devonshire not the Earl of Derby.

The Earl of Derby is of course famous for his association with Epsom race course and the race which carries his name.
