I am trying to locate Arthur Barnard's parents names he born in Wacton Norfolk in 1858 was Engine Driver etc. according to Census he married Emma? from Mutford Suffolk.

I would also like to know her surname.
I have been searching around on ancestry website and haven't managed to find their marriage.

Hi Sally,

The marriage is indexed:
March quarter 1877
Arthur Leonard Barnard
Mutford registration district
4a 971

There is an Emma Maddis on the same page

I see his birth registered in December 1857
Arthur Leonard Barnard
Depwade
4b 213? (not too sure about the page number)

The best match on census returns I can spot is:
1871
RG10/1836 165 1
Wacton, Norfolk
'By the Common'

Daniel Barnard, head, 37, Ag lab, b. Norfolk Wymondham
Eliza, wife, 33, b. Wacton
Leonard, son, 13, Yard Boy, b. do.
Edward, son, 11, scholar, b. do.
Florence, dau, 8, scholar, b. do.
Jane, dau, 6, scholar, b. do.
Eliza, dau, 3, b. do.
Alice, dau, 1, b. do.

Hi Tanya

I think this is going to be a challenging one, if the Wymondham connection is right for Daniel Barnard b. 1834 married to Eliza.

I have found a Daniel Barnard b.1713 Gt. Ellingham and d. 1764 in Wymondham.  I can see info on that tree going back to 13th century. But im wondering if they connect.

So I have a blank between one Daniel Barnard dying in 1764 in Wymondham and another Daniel Barnard being born in 1834 in Wymondham. :-[

I certainly wouldn't connect them without any evidence!! And first of all, you'd have to prove the link between Arthur and Daniel!

This looks like a good match for Daniel in 1851
HO107/1821 708 11 & 12
Wacton, Norfolk
'Common'

Sarah Barnard, head, unm, 22, Housekeeper, b. Wymondham
John Constable, visitor, unm, 23, b. do.
Daniel Barnard, brother, unm, 17, Ag lab, b. do.
Eliza do., sister, 10, scholar, b. Wacton
Thomas do., brother, 8 scholar, b. do.
Maryann do., visitor, 6 (could be 16), b. do.
James do. , visitor, 2, b. do.
Sarah do., dau, 1mo, b. do.

You could ask for a 1841 look-up to check their parents...

(There are quite a few Barnard's born Wymondham on the 1851 census)
