1841 Filey Area look-up please
« on: Monday 03 April 06 20:57 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm following a William Wallace a smuggler back to his roots.  He was born abt 1843 died approx 1944 but I'm hoping to find his parents and older siblings in Filey or Scarborough:
Parents James & Elizabeth Wallis/Wallace (Willis/Walls)
Siblings: Isabel b1836 Scarbro,  Martha b1839 Filey, Hanna b1842 Filey

On the face of it the parents may (not) have each remarried at various times.  Is there a Richard & Elizabeth Wallace  with dau. Hannah in the area and is there a James and Catherine Wallace/Wallis in the area with dau Ann?

I'm guessing that Richard died and Elizabeth remarried widowed James Wallis after his wife Catherine's death -

I am  "Confused dot com?" :-))

Hoping to hear from somebody ad looking forward to erasing the tramlines between my eyes.

Hi Sandra,
I think you've got a success story - she sure looks like Martha to me - a nurse at 11??!!?  Thanks for looking at the 1841 Filey census - I'd read there were 1841 indexes for a few areas but didn't know if they'd been updated.  Your surname isn't Phillips by chance is it?  My dau took me for a tarot card reading today and as she was clearing away the cards after telling me to look after my money, I was moving house, etc., she came out with "William born April; 1904, Whitby" (yes he was & I phoned S.Shields yesterday to enquire about court case records -maybe the records are in whitby?), then she said, "he smuggled whiskey, jewels, rubies; operated from top of Scotland glencoe to France and the Mediterranean; surname Phillips."   Funny thing was his descendant had the biggest ruby ring you've ever seen!
Thanks again it's much appreciated.
