Nottingham Directories 1930's
« on: Tuesday 04 April 06 09:21 BST (UK) »
I'm not sure whether there were directories around for Nottingham in the 1930's.
If there were could somebody please see if a Charles Owen lived at 46 Bramcote Road, Beeston and what his occupation was.

Thanking you in anticipation ;)

Hi Erika

This information will be available from Nottinghamshire Archives in the Electoral Registers. I know the people that currently live at 46 Bramcote Road and have been in the house several times. Small world!

Hi Jane

What a small world indeed.  Would they mind if you took a photo of the house do you think?

Can I write to the Nottingham Archives and ask them to look up in the Electoral Register?

I haven't used that sort of information before.

Many thanks

Hi Erika

They won't mind at all! The house was bought by my church in about the 1970s and has housed our curates ever since. Its only 2 blocks away from me. Most of the houses on the surrounding roads to me were built in the 1930s and it was fields before that. But from 2 roads down and below (we are on a hill) the houses change to Victorian to 1920s. Bramcote Road must have been one of the first built in the 'newer' houses if your relative was there in 1930.

I can look up the electoral register for you if you are not local but it may be 2 or 3 weeks before I get there. I can only get on a Tuesday night (their late night) as I work full time and I can't get this week, then it is Easter and I don't know if they will be closed on the Tuesday. Let me know if you want me to.

Hi Jane

How very kind of you to offer to look at the elecoral registers.

I live down in the New Forest so all my research is done on the internet until I set off on a little trip up north to do some digging!!

I'm interested in 46 Bramcote Road as that was the address on my parents marriage cert. My father John Campbell gave it but I think the house was possibly belonging (not sure whether owned/rented?) to an uncle of his, possibly Charles Owen or at least ? Owen. It's a bit of a longshot really, but I think family history is!
My mum was living at 21 Anderson St, Beeston. This was in August 1934.

They were both working at Ericssons and I've photos of them in the hockey teams!

I'd be grateful for any help and of course willing to wait, patience is a must in this hobby.

If I can do anything in return for you, let me know. Where are your ancestors from? Having said that Just seen them on the bottom of your posts!

Hi Erika

I can certainly get the photo but I will wait for a nice sunny day. Your mum would have lived on Anderson Crescent which is a couple of roads the other way.

Anything else at the archives when I go? I may as well do another couple of quick look ups for you.

Hi Jane

Thank you.

I will have a look through my "stuff" and see if there is anything else which maybe useful to lookup and get back to you on a pm if that's ok.

Hope we get a sunny day soon, although it's been lovely here the past week, just a cold wind tho'.

Have a good Sunday

Hi Erika

Here are your photos at last. As you look at the pair of semis it is the right hand one (that needs the hedge cutting).

By the way I haven't forgotten about the school, it is still in a plastic bag.
