Why can't I find them?
« on: Sunday 10 October 04 19:37 BST (UK) »
Someone has very kindly found my Burns family on the 1871 census but I am unable to locate them on the 1881 census. Any ideas why?????

1871 census info

1871 Waterloo Street Wavertree Liverpool.
Patrick Burns Head M 28 Labourer Ireland
Elizabeth Wife M 30 Labourers Wife Ireland
Mary A Daughter 7 Wavertree
Elizabeth Daughter 5 Wavertree
Catherine Daughter 4 Wavertree
Margaret Daughter 2 Wavertree

I can find Patrick, Mary Ann and Margaret on the 1891 census.

Thanks

Pat ??? ??? ???

Hi Pat,

I've lost a family too on the 1881.  I can only assume that for whatever reason they were missed off.  I've heard of other instances of this too.  Frustrating isn't it?

Hi Pat

Try looking for Patrick being a bit older - He appears to be on the 1891 Census in Wavertree but is given as being 52. His daughter Margaret is with him aged 21 - So looks like a match.

Census Ref:

Source information:    RG12/3003
Registration district:    West Derby
Sub registration district:    Wavertree
ED, institution, or vessel:    6
Folio:    46
Page:    24

They are boarding at 12 Hills Place, Wavertree (Holy Trinity).

Head of household is Thomas Kearns, Carter and his wife is Mary. A. Kearns aged 27 - Could this possibly be Patrick's daughter - right age and also born Wavertree? There is also a son Patrick Kearns !!!!

Patrick is a widower and his occupation is bricklayer's labourer.

Best Wishes
