1851 census - Bridlington Area, Please. Completed with thanks.
« on: Thursday 06 April 06 16:06 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for Richard Mason, born around 1785, making him about 66 in 1851, from the Bridlington area & his wife Mary  born around 1789, making her about 62 in 1851.  I don't know where she was born.  Mary didn't die until June 1872 age 83 in the Bridlington area. (FBMD)

I haven't found them on any census's yet.  But using the IGI, I have found that Thomas Mason Ch.1813 in Sewerby & his brother Sowersby Mason Ch. 1829 in Sewerby had parents called Richard & Mary.  I have found Thomas & Sowerby living together on the 1851 census in Bempton.

I have also on the IGI found a Richard Mason Ch.30.1.1785 in the Bridlington area who married a Mary Sowersby on the 22.4.1813 in the Bridlington area.
Other Children may be: (taken from IGI, not found on a census, so no proof of a connection)

Esther Maria Mason.    B.1815    Bridlington area
John Mason           B.1817       Bridlington area
William Mason      B.1820     Bridlington area
Elizabeth Mason   B.1822     Bridlington area
Jane Mason       B.1824    Bridlington area
Richard Mason   B.1827   Bridlington area

I have put Bridlington area as they seem to move around the Sewerby/ Bempton region of Bridlington.

Thank you

Louise

Thank you Nessie, for the information.

It was lovely to receive all 3 census years.  I could follow her life for 30 years.  Do you know what an annuitant is?

I looked Great Kelk up on the Genuki site & found it was in the area of Foston On The Wolds, so I looked Mary Sowersby up for the 1789 period and found a Mary Sowersby Ch. 9.11.1788 in Foston on The Wolds.  So thank you for taking me back another generation.

Louise

Annuitant is someone that receives payment from an annuity, which is a sort of insurance policy that pays a regular income.
Can't help with the 1841 census, but it may be worthwhile to ask for a look-up for Mary on that census to see if you can glean any more information :)

Thanks Nessie,

I will ask if anybody can find Mary on the 1841 census.  It could give me a clue as to when her husband, Richard died.  I can't find him on the FreeBMD.
