You can find him in the various census. His name was Elis Humphry Evans, and his family were farmers near Trawsfynydd.

One of our family stories is that we are somehow related to him, but apart from the name "Evans" that is as far as it goes (My Evans research goes back to the 1700s and they are all from mid and south Wales).

Unfortunately, the translations don't do justice to the originals.....

Yes I am afraid that this may just be one of those family myths but worth investigating anyway. I am not having much luck pinning down my Evans ancestor as yet but have found Hedd Wynns family in Trawsfyndd - now to link the two... ::)

There's a rather good Welsh language film on Hedd Wynn (nominated for an Oscar the year it was won by 'Life is Beautiful I think). You can probably get that from Amazon - it'll have subtitles.

I don't know how accurate it is, but it'll give you a flavour
