Hi Twink

Richard BREEDS b. circa 1829 who married a Harriett WILLIS in 1849 in Hastings.  Children I'm aware of:
Rachel (1850) Richard (1852) John (1853) Sarah (1858) Caroline Mary (1860) Alfred (1877)

HO 107/ 1635/ Folio 307/ Page 81 - Behind 3 Winding Street, Old Town, Hastings
BREEDS  Harriett, Wife, Marr, 21, Fishermans Wife, born Hastings
Rachael, Dau, Unm, 1, born Hastings.

Richard must have been out fishing on the night of the census. -

Richard WENHAM b. 1811 Guestling who married a Sarah MARTIN in 1831 Hollington.

HO 107/ 1635/ Folio 337/ Page 72 – 5 Gardeners Row, Lennox Street, Hastings.
WENHAM Richard, Head, Marr, 40, Ag Lab, born Guestling
Sarah, Wife, Marr, 39, born Kent – place unknown
Richard, Son, Unm, 16, Ag Lab, born Hastings
Sarah, Dau, Unm, 11, born Hastings

Hi there Twink

Looking in the early Census returns for St Mary & St Clements, Hastings we have the following:

1821 Census - taken on 28th May 1821
John Breeds, Fisherman, 1 Family of 5 males & 1 Female.
Mark Breeds, Merchant, 1 Family of 1 male & 4 Females

1831 Census - Taken on 30th May 1831
Mr Breeds, Merchant, 1 Family of 2 males & 3 females
James Breeds, -, 1 Family of 2 males & 5 females - (High Street)
Thomas Breeds, -, 1 Family of 3 males & 5 females. (High Street)

Some of them could possibly connect at some point

Handy to have them filed away

Hi again Twink

"Richard WENHAM b. 1811 Guestling who married a Sarah MARTIN in 1831 "Hollington."

Whilst there are several Wenham & Whenham families in Hastings on the earlier census returns, there are also 2 Martin Families - I don't know if you have Sara Martins Father and/or his occupation ?

1831 Census, St Clements, Hastings
Michael Martin, Shoemaker, 3 Families totalling 4 males & 2 Females (High Street)
William Martin, -, 1 Family of 3 males & 2 females.

During the period 1820 - 1850 ish, 'Church in the Wood' at Hollington was the preferred church for marriages for Hastings couples.

Another bit of information to print off and file away

Many thanks for the additional information.. I'm abit short of time right now but as soon as I get a chance I will definately look and see if I can find the families on the trees that I have.
I don't as yet no Sarah Martins fathers details, but I will keep your information for future reference.
