Just curious, but does anyone subscribe to The Origins Network?

http://www.originsnetwork.com/

I'm not begging a lookup or anything I just wondered if it was value for money before I decide about signing myself up.

The good thing is that you can use their databases for 72 hours for £7.50...

Amy

I was thinking exactly the same thing as I have had e-mail from them concerning their site.

I did a name search, but it only came back with a total of 5 entries, 3 of which are on the boyds marriage index - and I know I have got them (did that index years ago)

So, even at £7.50 for 72 hours, it still seems a bit steep to tell me what I already know

But would it be useful for those of us that don't know what you know, if you know what i mean?   :-\

I might try the 72 hour one and if i think it's worth it i might go for the annual one.  £7.50 is only one Certificate and the cost of a parking meter.  ;D

My knowledge of Local & Family History is all in Sussex

My Ancestors all came from Cheshire (cotton & Silk Mills) and moved into Notts, Derby and Stoke in the 1850's

I am from the Notts branch of the family, but now in Sussex - so I try to find different avenues to pick up Cheshire Information on my ancestors.

So Amy, 13 months down the track, did you ever try origins?

I guess the other benefit is for folk in far flung provinces where they don't have easy access to an LDS centre or something.

I was wondering myself but have seen Boyds etc. elsewhere.

As someone who works 4 days a week with 3 young'uns I find I get a few grumpy comments if I sneak down to my local LDS centre (20min drive) too often..

HI

I subscribed

The flow of new counties on 1841 came to a stop , then started again.

Still waiting for a biggie like lancs or Cheshire. Got one or two from Boyd's
The other collections aren't worth much
I have a yearly subscription, it probably will be cancelled after

I think that Origins is good for the more 'obscure' early resources.  I found several marriage allegations that lead me to a marriage I was seeking.  They have Boyds marriage index 1538-1840, deaths, wills, apprentice records etc.  Do a name search & see if anything comes up in a category you haven't yet checked!

I believe I paid about 15 pounds for a 1 year subscription - mostly for the 1841 & 1871 census transcriptions. Origins have transcribed Devon (41 & 71), and Cornwall (41). I have found it to be very good value as I am always needing to check the 1841 census, I have a number of lines from Devon, and have just found some new ones as well.

I find an annual subscription is much cheaper than pay-per-view

My annual sbscription was about £22

The areas indexed so far are not my main area, Chechire, Lancashire, Surrey, Northants, and Yorkshire would be good - but they're eventually coming to Ancestry.

I have had little value from the extra databases. No apprentices, no wills, no marrriage allegations.

A few entries from Boyd's index.

Hmmm.....
