ship's passenger list - "Tortilla"
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 14:28 BST (UK) »
Annie Gorman Chisholm sailed to Brisbane from Scotland on board  "Tortilla" , arriving 10 October 1911. She married Sydney Watts on 24 December 1914. I would like to see the full passenger list but don't know how to go about it. Willing to pay.

You could write to Queensland State Archives, P.O. Box 1397, Sunnybank Hills, Qld, 4109.  Or you could email them at info[at]archives.qld.gov.au

I am not sure whether they will provide what you ask, or whether they can give you the name of a researcher to do the job for you.

Hi Matchis,

A very well-respected researcher here in Queensland is Judy Webster.  She specialises in the Queensland State Archives.  Her website is at:

This ship was called "SS Torilla". It left London England on 21/8/1911 and arrived at Brisbane Australia on 10/10/1911. My Great Grandmother's sister Frances Margaret Sprott (formerly Mylchreest) was on board with her husband Robert Carnachan Sprott and their six sons. I'd be interested if anyone has any passenger lists or other records of this voyage.

Thanks for the FindMyPast info I didn't know they were on there. If you look at the index of arrivals and research the owners British India Steam Navigation Company and builders Palmers the name of this ship though was definitely:-

TORILLA

How confident are you about the departure date from London? I have an entry in a travel agent's day book for a George Thomas King of Rodbourne Cheney, Swindon  sailing on the S.S.Torilla on 16 August. His assisted passage cost £20. Toby.
